Welcome to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum Web site. It contains a wealth of in-depth information on the long and colorful history of the Rangers. Texas DPS traces its origins back to the Texas Rangers, which makes it the oldest State law enforcement agency in the nation.
The history of the Ranger service now spans three centuries—it is the only US law enforcement agency to have served under five national flags. Over the centuries the Rangers have undergone many changes, from a volunteer frontier militia to today's state-of-the-art investigative agency. What has persisted is a commitment to protect and serve the people of Texas.
As Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, I urge you to visit our Texas Ranger Hall of Fame in Waco. There you will learn more about this unique Texas heritage.
