Texas Rangers Company "C" - Lubbock
Major Jamie Downs
The jurisdiction of Company "C" covers 71 counties in the Texas Panhandle and North Texas, extending from the New Mexico border, southeast to Brown County, and north to the Red River. Being the geographically largest Ranger Company, Company "C” encompasses over 67,000 square miles, which by size, is larger than 28 other U.S. States. First serving this part of Texas in 1879 under the command of Captain G. W. Arrington, Captain Arrington's headquarters was known as Camp Roberts and was located on the White River in Crosby County. On the frontier, Company "C" was charged with controlling renegade Indians and arresting, or otherwise handling, lawbreakers.
Today, the 21 Rangers of Company "C" assist local and federal law enforcement agencies investigating major crimes and bringing lawbreakers to justice. We fully recognize that the rich heritage we enjoy today is due to the courage, integrity, perseverance, and keen sense of right and wrong of those Rangers who came before us. We also understand that we each have a duty to every Texan to protect this reputation by conducting ourselves in such a way as to maintain these great traditions. We are ever mindful that it is our responsibility to preserve this legacy for future generations; our vision and goal is to build upon what we have inherited by remaining expertly trained and properly equipped so that we may provide Texas citizens and the unfortunate victims of crime the best investigative assistance available anywhere.
